The Podosphere's daily intelligence brief for podcast industry operators.
Issue #39 · Wednesday, October 7, 2026 · 3 min read
Libsyn is putting ad inventory data straight into RSS feeds, a small technical move that points at a bigger push to make podcast ad slots machine-readable across the open ecosystem.
Today: RSS ad metadata · Ausha ships video to Apple · Podcasts: 2% of car audio · Apple goes global-feed
1. Libsyn embeds ad inventory data directly in RSS feeds
Libsyn has started publishing where ads appear in an episode and how many slots are sellable as a namespace extension inside the RSS feed itself, rather than keeping that data in a separate ad-ops system. Podnews says it is the first time it has seen this approach used.
Why it matters: If this catches on, ad sellers and programmatic marketplaces get a standard, feed-native way to read inventory without custom integrations per host.

2. Ausha adds Apple Podcasts video distribution
Ausha launched the ability to publish video directly to Apple Podcasts from its existing workflow, following Apple's iOS 26.4 video redesign, alongside its existing YouTube distribution. Creators upload one video file and Ausha extracts audio for every other listening platform.
Why it matters: Hosting companies now need an Apple-approved video pipeline to stay competitive, not just a YouTube one, as Apple builds out its own video surface.
3. Canadian data shows podcasts still a sliver of car listening
Signal Hill Insights' Audio on the Move study found podcasts account for just 2% of in-car audio time in Canada, versus 46% for AM/FM and 27% for music streaming. The same study found only 4% of Canadians like fully AI-generated podcasts, while 68% dislike them.
Why it matters: Ad sellers pitching in-car reach should temper claims against radio, and tool makers building AI-generated shows face a skeptical audience even before quality is judged.

4. Apple quietly drops country-specific podcast recommendations
Apple Podcasts is moving away from country-specific recommendations, according to Podnews. No further detail on timing or replacement logic was given.
Why it matters: Publishers who rely on local charts or regional algorithmic boosts for discovery should watch for shifts in how Apple surfaces their shows outside their home market.
