Signal #48: Beehiiv adds DAI, Acast posts record margins

The Podosphere's daily intelligence brief for podcast industry operators.

Issue #48 · Wednesday, October 28, 2026 · 3 min read

Beehiiv's push into dynamic ad insertion and Acast's record quarter both point the same direction: podcast money is consolidating around platforms that can sell inventory programmatically at scale.

Today: Beehiiv's DAI play · Acast's record Q3 · Apple vs identity vendors · Castro changes hands

1. Beehiiv adds dynamic ad insertion to chase bigger podcasts

Beehiiv is adding dynamically inserted programmatic ads via AdsWizz, letting its 2,100-plus podcast publishers monetize back catalog alongside direct-sold host-read spots. Publishers keep 50% to 60% of programmatic revenue with no impression minimums; CEO Tyler Denk said the lack of DAI had cost beehiiv larger creators who went elsewhere to monetize.

Why it matters: Hosting platforms without DAI now face a widening competitive gap against ones that can offer both direct and programmatic revenue in one dashboard.

2. Acast posts record revenue and margins on North America, ARPLV gains

Acast's Q3 2026 net sales reached SEK 802.3m, up 25% year over year, with North America growing 54% to become its largest segment; adjusted EBITDA margin expanded to 10% from 6% a year earlier. Listens and views grew only 4% while average revenue per listen or view rose 20% to SEK 0.69, and the Backyard Ventures acquisition added SEK 28m in sales.

Why it matters: Acast's profit growth is coming from monetizing existing inventory harder rather than from audience growth, a model other networks will need to replicate as listen growth slows industrywide.

3. Apple's Safari lockdown squeezes independent publisher ad yields

Apple's iOS, iPadOS, macOS and visionOS 27 updates now block Safari connections to identity-resolution infrastructure including The Trade Desk's Unified ID 2.0, LiveRamp, ID5, Permutive and Audigent. Across publishers using Aditude's technology, effective CPMs fell 4% on iOS and 11% on Mac, though Apple did restore The Trade Desk's broken ad-serving domain in Safari 27.2 on October 26.

Why it matters: Podcast sellers relying on third-party identity matching for programmatic deals should expect pricing pressure on Safari inventory and a bigger edge for platforms with logged-in, first-party audiences.

4. Castro sold to Maple Media, joining Player FM under one owner

Castro developer Dustin Bluck has sold the podcast app to Maple Media, which also owns Player FM. Bluck says the Maple team is committed to Castro's future.

Why it matters: Another independent listening app lands inside a larger portfolio, continuing the consolidation of niche podcast apps under a handful of owners.
