About Transcriber
Transcriber is a free Mac app that transcribes video and audio files on the user's computer using Apple's on-device speech engine. Users drop a file onto the window or Dock icon, or point the app at a folder so that new files are transcribed on arrival. Transcripts are split into timestamped subtitle cues of up to two lines and 42 characters, which can be edited in place, with Find & Replace for correcting recurring errors. A built-in player shows the current cue as a caption over the video, and clicking a timestamp jumps the player to that point.
The app exports SRT and WebVTT subtitles, plain text with or without timestamps, Markdown, and a SOAP note for clinical recordings written by Apple's on-device model. The product is aimed at creators and editors preparing YouTube captions and video subtitles, and at users who need transcripts without uploading files. Clinical users can generate SOAP notes, which require Apple Intelligence. Supported languages depend on Apple's on-device engines, with some languages using an earlier dictation model. The app does not label speakers. The product runs on macOS 26 or later.
