About Micdropp

MicDropp is an online audio recording platform for capturing remote and in-person audio, including podcasts, interviews, meetings, and lectures. Contributors record locally on their own devices using either a Chrome browser or the MicDropp iOS/Android mobile app, with files uploaded automatically to a connected Dropbox account once recording finishes. This local-then-upload approach avoids the quality issues associated with cloud-based VOIP call recording, since audio is not dependent on internet connection stability during the session.

The platform is built around creating recording "sessions" that hosts configure and send to any number of contributors via a link or pin code. Session settings can include recording length, expiry time, automatic naming, automatic upload and download, and a script prompter for reading scripted content such as promotional reads. Each contributor's audio is captured as an individual stream, giving editors flexibility to isolate or mute specific speakers.

MicDropp targets podcast producers who need to record remote guests and co-hosts, as well as users recording meetings, lectures, seminars, coursework, interviews, feedback sessions, news gathering, and case notes. It supports both distributed remote recording and in-person sessions where a mobile device is placed centrally to capture multiple speakers. Files can be recorded in .m4a (low quality) or .wav (high quality) formats and are stored in Dropbox for access and distribution.
