Signal #50: PodcastOne puts itself up for sale

The Podosphere's daily intelligence brief for podcast industry operators.

Issue #50 · Friday, October 30, 2026 · 3 min read

A buyout fight and a strong ad quarter both point the same direction: podcast valuations are back under scrutiny, from Wall Street to SiriusXM's earnings call.

Today: PodcastOne acquisition talks · SiriusXM podcast ads up 20% · Radio Rental goes LEGO · Apple's animated clip series

1. PodcastOne forms special committee as multiple buyers circle

PodcastOne's board has formed a special committee of independent directors and plans to hire a financial advisor after receiving inbound interest from multiple strategic parties about a potential acquisition, the company said in a press release. The board argues the stock doesn't reflect the business, pointing to its #6 U.S. podcast publisher ranking from Podtrac, more than 1 billion monthly impressions, and $61.7 million in fiscal 2026 revenue.

Why it matters: A sale process at a publicly traded network puts a real market price on scale and ad-sales assets, a useful benchmark for any network or hosting company weighing its own valuation.

2. SiriusXM's podcast ad revenue climbs 20% as video and social more than double

SiriusXM's Q3 2026 results showed podcast advertising revenue up 20% year on year, with video and social podcast advertising more than doubling, though the company didn't disclose exact dollar figures. SiriusXM also flagged supply constraints in podcasting even as demand grows.

Why it matters: Ad sellers and networks should note that supply constraints, not demand, may be the bottleneck limiting growth at scale right now.

3. Radio Rental spinoff shows horror podcasts chasing video virality

Tenderfoot TV premiered Laura of the Woods, a 10-minute LEGO-style stop-motion short adapting a 2019 Radio Rental episode, on YouTube, timed ahead of new Halloween episodes. The underlying podcast has surpassed 85 million downloads, and the original episode drew over 3 million downloads on its own.

Why it matters: Networks looking to stretch catalog value are turning hit back-catalog episodes into standalone video assets rather than just promoting new releases.

4. Apple Podcasts turns four shows' best moments into animated shorts

Apple Podcasts released The Greatest Stories Never Seen, four roughly one-minute animated videos adapting audio moments from Toni and Ryan, Baby This is Keke Palmer, Las Culturistas, and House Guest, promoted on Apple Podcasts' own Instagram.

Why it matters: Platforms are investing their own production budget in short-form video built from existing audio, a template tool makers should watch for clip and repurposing features.
